Under the terms of the PAHO/SCC/CAEAL Accreditation
Framework Arrangement, the CAEAL/CEPIS partnership carries out site assessments and
operates a proficiency testing program in the Latin America and Caribbean Region. The
granting and maintenance of accreditation is under the authority of the Standards Council
of Canada on the recommendation of the CAEAL/CEPIS partnership. Accreditation itself is
based on satisfactory participation in the site assessment program plus satisfactory
participation in proficiency testing, where such testing is offered as part of the
accreditation.
The Proficiency Testing Program targets testing in the
major disciplines of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and related water quality
parameters.
The CAEAL/CEPIS Partnership provides training services
which support both the Accreditation and Proficiency Programs. This provides opportunities
for laboratories and others to gain working knowledge of some of the complex issues that
face environmental testing laboratories.
