About WIZARD

WIZARD (Workplace Health Information System for Surveillance and Risk Detection) is a series of computer programs for IBM-compatible PCs that organize plant-level activities for injury and illness surveillance, disability (return-to-work) management, and health and safety follow-up. Produced by Neil Maizlish, Ph.D. in cooperation with the Pan American Health Organization, WIZARD offers an important component to a successful health and safety management program.

WIZARD removes a key barrier: the lack of a coherent system to report injuries and organize follow-up. WIZARD defines a minimum data set for occupational injury/illness surveillance and disability management, provides electronic report forms and standardized code lists to collect this data, and uses the data to generate the key statistical tables and case lists.

WIZARD is copyrighted, public-domain software which operates as an application of Epi Info 6.0x. Epi Info 6.0x must be installed before using WIZARD. WIZARD has an equivalent Spanish version known as SUAVIDERO (Sistema Automatizado para Vigilancia y la Deteccion de Riesgos Ocupacionales). WIZARD should be engaged only after adequate training in the basics of epidemiology and surveillance.

You are advised to read the user's manual which is a Word 6.0 file named WHIZ- MAN.UAL para WIZARD (versión en inglés) and SUAV_MAN.UAL para SUAVIDERO (versión en español). Installation instructions for files downloaded via InterNet are contained in the LEAME.105 and on page 11 of the WHIZ_MANUAL user's guide.

Installation Instructions

These files are self-extracting archives. You may leave the .EXE files in the same directory or you may create two separate directories, one for WIZARD, the other for SUAVIDERO. Execute the .EXE files in the appropriate directory, which will produce a series of compressed files. To be consistent with the installation procedure for distribution diskettes, it is recommended that you name the WIZARD directory WHIZ and the SUAVIDERO directory SUAV. Execute the .EXE files by typing WIZARD [enter] (or SUAVIDER [enter]) in the appropriate directory, which will produce a series of program files.

To start up WIZARD, from the DOS prompt, type:
C:\WHIZ> whiz [enter]
To start up SUAVIDERO, from the DOS prompt, type:
C:\SUAV> suav [enter]
