II Health Promotion Forum in the Americas

Terms of reference and proposed agenda

PAHO/WHO jointly with ABRASCO, UIHPE, ENSP-FIOCRUZ, CEPDEDOC-USP, the Interamerican Consortium of Universities for Health Promotion, UPR and CDC are organizing the II Forum on Health Promotion in the Americas.

The purpose of this forum is to provide an opportunity to reflect on progress and lessons learned in the 20 years between Ottawa and Bangkok, as well as, to propose a regional agenda of work in health promotion.

Location: Río de Janeiro, Brazil.

Date: August 18, 19 and 20, 2006

Objectives:

  1. Build consensus for a regional agenda in health promotion to prepare a plan of action that will enable us to follow up on the commitments of the Bangkok Charter
  2. Comparative analysis and review of the influence of the Ottawa Charter and subsequent Declarations in the last 20 years, up to the Bangkok Charter, and how they have shaped the conceptual development and practice of health promotion in the countries of the region.
  3. Update the health promotion framework since Ottawa to Bangkok.
  4. To reflect on the health promotion experiences in the region, especially good practices and evidence of effectiveness, including the presentation of the Health Promotion Capacity Profile (2002-05)
  5. To implement health promotion as a public health strategy that allows us to address the social determinants of health with equity
