In this line of action, CEPIS is developing two projects:Project on Integrated Management of Environment and Health Actions in the City of Tacna, Peru
This Project is working in coordination with the provincial municipality of Tacna.
PAHO/WHO Chile Representation in Chile will promote a similar project in the border city of Arica.Strategic Plan for the Environmental Improvement of the City of Puno.
This project is working with the Comisión de Recuperacion de la Bahia Interior de Puno and INADE.
Objectives
- To develop in the cities the capacity to manage comprehensively and sustainably their environmental and health problems.
- Prepare a objective status report of the environment and health in the target cities and to propose alternatives solutions.
- To develop, up to the execution level, if the alternatives selected, to arrange the financing, and to implement them.
- To disseminate the experience in the country and in the Latin America and Caribbean Region.
Strategies
- Through the line of action Healthy Cities, CEPIS proposes the creation of management mechanisms and methodologies to solve environmental and health problems in medium-size cities. A requisite to launch a project is the political will of the authorities to find out and implement solutions that may be replicated in other cities.
- To create the mechanisms of participation so that the authorities and representative sectors of the population, can know and decide about their problems, priorities, and approachs to solve them.
- Gradual and sustainable solutions will be proposed to solve environmental and health problems; the use of adecuate technology according to the reality, culture and payment capacity of the neighbors, will be promoted
- Behavior changes will be sought among the population to adopt viable and sustainable lifestyles that make possible healthy cities.
- In structuring and developing the projects, the national and regional projection will be bear in mind, since the results obtained will be an example for other cities with similar problems.
