Resolution (Adapted from Draft Waste Oils Report)

Ultimately, this booklet seeks to guide local officials and tanning and finishing facility owners/operators towards treatment and disposal methods which minimize environmental and health risks However, if this booklet manages to raise the level of awareness surrounding tannery wastes. It will have achieved a measure of success. At the very least, it is hoped that this booklet will encourage community leaders and facility management to examine tannery waste production, treatment and disposal practices and di sposal practices and explore future options.;

Since this document will be distributed to a diverse selection of communities with a wide variety of tannery waste production volumes and types, the magnitude of tannery waste problems, and, thus, the communities abilities to treat and dispose of the waste will differ drastically. Hopefully, communities and tanning facilities will benefit from reading this booklet and will.

Recommendations

The most recommended methods of waste management, in order of decreasing preference are : waste reduction, re-use and recovery of process inputs and waste products, treatment of waste to reduce volumes and toxicity, and lastly, disposal of waste to minimize negative impacts on human health and the environment.
